Jackson trustees approve union contracts

JACKSON TWP.  During the regular meeting on Feb 9, The Jackson Township Board of Trustees approved a Negotiated Agreement with the Jackson Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 2280 (Captains and Firefighters), and Jackson Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 2280 (Fire Inspectors), during its Feb. 9 regular meeting.

Both contracts include a 3 percent cost of living adjustment each year with employees paying 14 percent toward their healthcare. The captains and firefighters’ agreement is effective Jan. 1, 2021 through Dec. 31 2023, and the fire inspectors’ agreement is effective Jan. 2, 2021 through Dec. 31, 2023. 

Township administrator Randy Gonzalez said that the township’s safety forces are, “excellent and do a great job.”

In other actions, trustees:

• Paid bills in the amount of $2.1 million. 

• Swore in six new part-time firefighters including: Adam J. Gladysz; Andrew A. Kendrick; Corey R. Korosa; Lukas A. Ricketts; Nicholas D. Wilson; and Leroy E. Yoder. 

• Accepted donations as follows; $75 gift card from Brechbuhler family; $50 from Llyod and Sandra Froelich in memory of Don Stanley; and $40 from John and Jacci Harriman in memory of Don Stanley to the Fire Department. 

• Approved a personal protective equipment replacement purchase $11,412 from various vendors. 

• Approved the purchase of a new pumper truck in the amount of $523,260 for Fire Station 3 from Sutphen Fire Truck Manufacturer. It replaces a 2005 truck.  

• Authorized the improvement of the exterior of the administration building in the amount of $17,835 with Coon Restoration and Sealants  to repair caulking and flashing issues. 

• Accepted a donation to the 2021 Community Celebration from Sutphen Corporation.  

• Set four public rezoning hearings with the first being at 5 p.m. Feb. 23 to hear about the rezoning of 17.32 acres on the southside of Stuhldreher Avenue Northwest, about 720-feet east of Ocala Northwest from R-R (Rural Residential) to R-3 (Residential Planned Unit District).

At 5 p.m. March 9, trustees will hear a request for a revision on a previous R-3 PUD Development plan that was approved in 2007 for the property at 1425 Whipple Ave. NW. 

At 5 p.m. March 15, trustees will hear a request to rezone about 53.39 acres on the southside of Portage Avenue NW, about 445 feet east of Blendon Drive Northwest, from R-R (Rural Residential) to R-3 (PUD Residential Planned Unit Development District). 

The final hearing will be at 5 p.m. March 15 to hear a request to rezone about 25.5 acres of a 77.86-acre tract on the southside of Portage Avenue Northwest, west of Frank Avenue, from R-R (Rural Residential) to R-1A (Single Family Residential District).

All the hearings will be at Jackson High School, 7600 Fulton Road NW.
