CANTON Two former Lake High School standouts received postseason honors from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference basketball awards banquet.
Mitch Spotleson, a senior forward on the men’s basketball team, and Baylen Dyrlund, a senior forward on the women’s basketball team, were both honored by the G-MAC.
After leading the Pioneers to a 19-9 overall record and a fourth-place finish in the league’s regular-season standings, Spotleson received honorable mention.
Spotleson, a 6-foot-5 forward, posted averages of 12.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per contest. He ranked eighth in the G-MAC in overall rebounding during the regular season, while his average of 5.2 defensive rebounds per game was fifth-best in the conference.
The durable senior never missed a game during his stellar Malone career, starting all 111 contests over the past four seasons. On Malone’s all-time lists, he currently ranks 31st in scoring with 1,257 points and 12th in rebounding with 721 career caroms.
Dyrlund, a senior forward on the women’s basketball team, also received honorable mention recognition at the postseason banquet at Cedarville University.
The Hartville native led the Pioneers in scoring this season, averaging 12.7 points per game. She also pulled down a team-high 5.8 rebounds a game and shot a team-best 44.4 percent from the floor. Additionally, Dyrlund shot 79.2 percent from the free-throw line and reached double figures in scoring 16 times, including a season-high 21 in a home win over Lake Erie.
After being named Second Team All-G-MAC last season and adding honors for this season, Dyrlund finished her two-year Malone career with 670 points and 330 rebounds.
