GREEN A 29-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash Monday night on Interstate 77.
The crash occurred on I-77 southbound near the Massillon Road exit about 9:45 p.m.
According to a news release from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, a 29-year-old Jackson Township man was riding a 2015 Yamaha R1 at an extremely high rate of speed. The motorcycle struck a Chevy S10 pickup truck, driven by a 46-year-old man also driving south.
After striking the pickup truck, the Yamaha struck a 2019 Jeep Compass, driven by a 27-year-old woman.
The 29-year-old man sustained fatal injuries and was transported to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office. The driver of the Chevy was transported to Mercy Medical Center for minor injuries. The driver of the Jeep did not suffer any injuries.
The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office had not released the identity of the 29-year-old, and was working to notify family.
The sheriff’s office said speed was a factor in the crash, but it is not yet known if drugs or alcohol were a factor. The 29-year-old was wearing a helmet.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Summit Metro Crash Response Team are continuing to investigate the crash.
I-77 southbound was closed for about four hours due to the crash.
