The Stark County Port Authority has approved an agreement with developer ABC Gardens.
JACKSON TWP. Plans for a senior housing development at the former Tam O’Shanter golf course took another step forward Friday.
In a special telephone meeting, the Stark County Port Authority approved an agreement with developer ABC Gardens.
As part of the deal, the port authority will lease the land during development, then lease it back to the developer. The arrangement gives the developer more tax savings.
The port authority has executed similar agreements on other Stark County projects.
The agreement involves the first phase of plans to build senior living on part of the former 300-acre golf course.
ABC is currently working to finish needed infrastructure for its Greens at Belden development, said Carmen Fiorilli, director of finance and development.
Plans for the senior living campus at The Greens include a 120-unit independent living community and a separate assisted-living facility.
Developers plan to break ground on the first 38 independent housing units this fall. They should be ready for occupants by spring 2021, he said.
Other plans call for a Meijer supercenter -- set to break ground next spring -- and other retail developments. Work on that project is underway along Fulton Drive NW near Everhard Road.
ABC Development purchased about 62 acres of the property, with 40 acres going to Jackson Township and 200 acres to Stark Parks.
