SPRINGFIELD TWP. During the Feb. 27 Springfield Board of Trustees meeting, the new school resource officer for the Springfield elementary schools, Cody Meade, was sworn in.


Trustee Dean Young also made a motion that was approved to acknowledge receipt of a notice from Warren Price of termination of his contract for legal and management services for the township, effective Feb. 15. Also, approved was that the position of Springfield Township administrator will remain vacant pending further review by trustees. During the review period, Ted Weinsheimer will assist the Board of Trustees in execution of the Board’s administrative duties.


A motion regarding compensation for all non-bargaining employees was tabled to an executive session.


During the meeting, a motion was made to acknowledge receipt of notice from Joe DiLauro that he is unable to accept the elected position as Springfield Township fiscal officer. The term would commence April 1. The board will appoint Michael M. Spickard to the position for the term. The contract with Spickard includes for him to provide services to assist in the transition of the fiscal officer’s department during the month of March at the rate of $25 per hour, and not to exceed 80 hours in that month.


In police business, Jorden Mclean was appointed to fill a vacant part time officier position. He will serve a one-year probation period with a pay rate of $18 per hour.


The board approved a payment to Southwest Summit Council of Governments in the amount of $20,000 to be split between the fire and police departments. This payment is the first installment of the $100,000 buy-in agreement, also known as fair share fee for dispatch services.


The board accepted the resignation of full-time firefighter/EMT paramedic Kevin Atkinson, effective March 8. He has accepted a full-time position with the City of Green Fire Department, and in his resignation letter he expressed his gratitude to Springfield Township for hiring him full time 15 years ago and for giving him the opportunity to serve the communities of Springfield and Lakemore.


Atkinson was accepted to the position of part time firefighter/EMT paramedic, effective March 10 for the Springfield Department and to waive the required probationary period due to his serving 15 years as a full-time firefighter.


The board authorized the appointment of Nicholas Folden, effective Feb. 27 to fill a vacant full-time position of firefighter/EMT paramedic. He will serve a one-year probation period.


Also appointed to fill a full-time position as a firefighter/EMT was Jaret Rockich, effective Feb. 27. He will serve a one-year probation period.


The board went into executive session to discuss compensation for non-bargaining employees and the status of a current issue with a bargaining unit. No action was taken, and a special meeting was set for 5 p.m. March 5.
