HARTVILLE With natural gas rates at a near record low, Hartville Village Council discussed a proposed four-year natural gas agreement with Constellation Energy Group, at a rate of $2.85 per 1,000 cubic feet at its Dec. 3 regular meeting.
The village signed a one-year contract with Constellation in March, at a rate of $3.183 per 1,000 cubic feet. At that time, Council decided against a four-year contract due to the fact that the rate could not be negotiated below $3 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Village Fiscal Officer Scott Varney said the rate has only gone below $2.85 per 1,000 square feet once, for a six-month period, since 2013.
Mayor Cynthia Billings said the rates, negotiated by Independent Energy Consultants, are good for 30 days.
No action was taken on the proposal at the Dec. 3 meeting.
• Council members approved the annexation of former Lake Township property at 1511 and 1531 Edison Street, which had previously been approved by Stark County Commissioners.
• A Board of Zoning Appeals recommendation for a conditional use variance at 127 Mill Street to Fruit of Toil, an antiques and crafts business, was also approved by Council. Billings noted that conditional use approval has been granted to similar businesses at the location three previous times.
