JACKSON TWP. During the regular meeting on Nov. 18, the Jackson Local Schools Board of Education heard a presentation from Athletic Director Dan Michel for the 2019 fall sports coaches and athletes.
Michel said the district had “a good overall fall sports program.” The district earned five out of nine Federal League Championships including girls tennis, girls cross country, boys cross country, girls soccer and boys soccer.
Kevin Walsh was named Federal League Coach of the Year for girls cross country. Head coach Mike Biros was named the Federal League Coach of the Year and Stark County Coach of the Year for boys soccer. Head coach Frank Gagliardi was named Federal League Coach of the Year and Stark County Coach of the Year for girls soccer.
Garrett Hattery was named the Federal League Player of the Year and Stark County Player of the Year and earned First Team All Ohio for boys soccer.
Izzy Arnold earned First Team All Ohio and Kate Bleichrodt earned Stark County Player of the Year in girls soccer.
Plus, girls golf finished first in the Federal League, first in the sectional, first in the district and qualified for the state tournament for the 11th time out of the past 12 years.
• Approved the purchase of five 72 passenger buses through the Stark County Schools Council of Government at a total cost of $437,350 from Truck Sales & Service.
• Scheduled a public re-employment hearing for retiring bus mechanic Donald Hallett. The hearing will become part of the organizational meeting tentatively set for Jan. 14, 2020.
• Approved the Adaptive Sports Agreement to host the wheelchair basketball program at Jackson Local Schools, Nov. 21, 2019 through March 9th, 2020.
