GREEN  During the Fourth of July week, the city of Green had a special visitor.

Petru Miendea-Calus, the mayor of Beius, Romania, came to town. Beius is Green's sister city after Green City Council approved the arrangement in February, 2018. That summer, Green Mayor Gerard Neugebauer visited Beius and Petru's visit mirrored his trip.

While here, Petru visited various cites in Green and a polka concert at the Central Park Amphitheater. Even a summer shower could not dampen the event which both Petru and his wife, Gabriella, enjoyed along with Neugenbauer and his wife, Maria.

Petru had nothing but nice things to say about Green and his experience.

"I liked everyone I met," he said. "There were a lot of great people. I really liked the city. It was very nice. The concert at Blossom was wonderful."

He said he especially liked his meal at Menche's'.

"I really enjoyed the hamburger I had at Menche's," he said. "It was much tastier then the ones we normally get at McDonald's in Romania. It was really nice to also enjoy the Fourth of July celebration and take part in various events".

During his visit, Petru had a chance to take in Rubber Ducks baseball game, visit the Cleveland Art Museum, take a trip on the "Goodtime III," and tour Akron Children's hospital.

"I really enjoyed everything," he said.

Both Green and Beius are quite similar in size and general composition, being suburbs of larger cities. Both mayors hope that the initial contacts will blossom into more fruitful endeavors. Neugebauer has stared the ball rolling by helping get a large quantity of televisions for the local hospital in Beuis while a manufacturing concern in Beuis is looking to open a plant in Green.
