SPRINGFIELD TWP.  Springfield firefighters are expecting another exceptional day for the third annual Springfield Fire Food Truck Festival on Springfield Lake on Aug. 10.

Last year, thousands came to enjoy a large variety of food, fun, family events and a beautiful day to spend at Springfield Lake.

Organizer and Firefighter Paramedic Michael Marias said the smell of delicious food filled the air last year and he is looking forward to this year and expects to see more people come out to enjoy.

Attendees will have the opportunity to peruse 10 food trucks to “sniff” out their favorite aromas to match their taste buds.

This year’s menu of trucks offers hungry visitors tasty treats from Enticing Cakes to Cheezylicious. Also, on the menu is SWAT Food Truck, Cookery Food Truck, Smashtime, The Little Penguin, A Movable Feast, Southern Thangs, Brisket Therapy and Dilauro's Pizzaria. Most visitors won’t be able to try them all, however. The trucks will be lakeside from 12:30 to 8:30 p.m., giving attendees eight full hours to give it a try. Marias said the day features food trucks “that provide a variety of cuisines you just can’t find at one restaurant, all in one beautiful location.”

With the food trucks comes other things including craft beer by Akronym Brewing Company from Akron and local wine by Nauti Vine Winery from Portage Lakes. The selections of beer and wine will pair and complement food choices.

The event continues to grow each year and provides an amazing venue for a family friendly event that everyone can enjoy. Alongside the music, food and kids events, visitors can enjoy a walk along the lake on the Spartan Trail, enjoy some playtime at the playgrounds and exercise at the adult exercise area. All located together lakeside.

By popular demand the 3rd Alarm band will be back to entertain the hungry visitors from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. The band was founded by Springfield Firefighter Bruce George. The band features five unique lead vocalists and a three-piece horn section. The band will cover hits everyone loves but rarely hear.

“Reviews of the band have been overwhelmingly positive, and you never know what's coming next,” said Marias.

Earlier in the day, from 1 to 4 p.m., Springfield’s own Chad Baker will perform his country hits. Baker is a 2014 graduate of Springfield High School and was the first winner of the annual Schrop Idol. He just launched his album, “This Feeling Grows” July 13 and he is on a nationwide tour but, will be back to perform for his hometown. The music throughout the day and evening will have you up on your feet and dancing with the crowd.

For the kids, the company of Part Of Their World will have a variety of Disney princesses and superheroes available for photo opportunities and a face painter throughout the day.

Everyone will have a chance to vote for their favorite Food Truck by placing a vote ticket into a corresponding bucket with the food truck's name on it.

Get there early and plan to spend the day. Last year, more than 3,000 people enjoyed the day and it is anticipated there will be more this year. Food trucks are not usually found in the township so it is a time that visitors can get a taste as to what that scene is about.

Marias said it is a great time for all to enjoy and offers an opportunity to show what Springfield has to offer and is a beautiful place to visit.

He said the department works hard all year protecting the citizens and being able to host the event for the community is a way to say thank you for the continued support.

“A lot of people only get a chance to interact with us when they are experiencing a negative or difficult time,” Marias said. “For them, this is a thank you, and for those that have yet to utilize our services, it’s a great reminder that we are here and will be there in your time of need.”

This year, the event is pet friendly, as long as people are responsible with their pets. Volunteers from Runningdogrunners.com will be coming out and providing a pet cooling station for those who bring out their dogs to our event as well as dog activities and information about the organization.

The event will be held at 2459 Canfield Road. For more information, visit @stfdfoodtruckfestival on Facebook.
