The Rotary Club of Canton and Mercy Medical Center is hosting a health fair from 7 to 11 a.m. April 27 at Mercy Medical Center’s Mercy Hall Auditorium, 1320 Mercy Drive NW. Mercy Hall is located directly behind the hospital’s main parking garage. For $40, community members can purchase a basic panel of blood screenings, which include: CBC with differential, CMP, lipid profile and thyroid (TSH). This basic panel tests for cholesterol, anemia and kidney/liver function provides over 30 results. In addition to the $40 basic panel, several optional screenings will also be offered, including: A1C Hemoglobin, $15, PSA, $15, Vitamin D 25-Hydroxy, $48. A 12-hour fast is recommended for more accurate results. Registration is available online by visiting www.cantonrotary.org. Although registration is preferred, walk-in appointments are also welcome. Rotary Club of Canton will accept cash, check and credit card for the above screenings.
Celebrate Earth Day
The North Canton Public Library will celebrate Earth Day with a recycle fair, plant sale, repair clinic and upcycled craft activities for all ages from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. eCycle Solutions of Ohio will be on-site to accept electronic items for recycling from household appliances to computer equipment, eCycle will safely recycle unwanted items. This service is free with the exception of tube TVs and monitors ($20 each), CFL bulbs ($0.50 each) and tube style fluorescent bulbs ($0.25 per foot). U-Shredd-It will be on-site to collect, shred and safely recycle unwanted paper and will accept up to three boxes of paper per household. The library will also accept gardening equipment/tools, gently used pots, pans, canning jars and dinnerware. These will be redistributed to the StarkFresh community garden and partner sites. Children ages 15 and under are invited to Jackson North Park from 8 to 11 a.m. May 4 to participate in the Jackson Parks Fishing Derby. Children should bring their own poles and bait and try to catch one of the many fish stocked especially for this event. Children will get to participate in special events such as the Kids Casting contest and the Big Fish Contest. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Registration is required byby May 3. Registration forms and flyers may be obtained at the Jackson Township Administration Building.
