Dan Michel will take over as athletic director for Jackson Local Schools on Aug. 1.

DISCUSSION Dan Michel replaces retiring athletic director Terry Peterson who leaves at the end of this school year. Michel has worked for the district for 30 years starting in 1989. He has worked as the head wrestling coach, assistant football coach and a social studies teacher. The past eight years, he has been the athletic director and property manager at Jackson Memorial Middle School.
He and his wife, Heidi, live in Jackson Township. They have three sons who all graduated from Jackson High School. Nate is the oldest and Patrick is the youngest. The middle son, Zach, works as a teacher and coach in the district.
"I'm excited for the opportunity," Michel said. "It's a great school system and I hope to carry on the traditions that Terry has put forth."
The board and Superintendent Christopher DiLoreto congratulated Michel and said they are excited for him to take the position.
Treasurer Linda Paris said salaries for administrators would be approved at a later meeting.
Hired Michelle Krieg as the new principal at Amherst Elementary. She will be replacing longtime Principal Bill Hayden who will be retiring at the end of this school year.
Set the board's annual retreat for 7:30 - 11 a.m. July 23 with the regular board meeting immediately following.
Approved continuing the district's membership with Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) for the 2019-2020 school year.
Approved the Support of Military Children and Families resolution to continue the district's commitment to staying connected academically, socially and emotionally to the children and families of military who are deployed. High School Principal Jeff Kracker said the district is working on becoming a Purple Star school, which is awarded by the Ohio Department of Education to schools that are military-friendly and have demonstrated a major commitment to students and families connected to the nation's military.
Approved five field trips including: A seventh-grade trip to Washington, D.C. on May 16-18; speech and debate team going to compete in the nationals at Dallas, Texas June 15-22; the girls volleyball team going to Myrtle Beach June 21-28; girls basketball team going to the University of Notre Dame June 28- July 1; and the cross country team going to Camp Shaggy Aug. 3- 11. All of the sports trips are supported by the associated booster clubs.
