Party for the Planet
Join Party for the Planet at the Akron Zoo. There is no better place to ‘go green’ than this Earth Day celebration. Visit different vendor booths set-up around the zoo and learn about green and sustainable efforts at organizations in our community. The party is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 19. The day is free to zoo members and regular admission applies for non-members. The zoo is located at 500 Edgewood Ave. For more information, call 330-375-2550.
Decorative wood burning
Decorative wood burning will be held from noon to 2 p.m. April 20 at the Green Branch Library. Merriam-webster.com pyrography is defined “the art or process of producing designs or pictures (as on wood or leather) by burning or scorching with hot instruments.” Join in a demonstration and presentation given by woodworking expert, Chuck Poley. Learn Tai Chi
People of all ages are invited to come “play” and learn how Tai Chi and Qigong breathing and movement techniques can boost energy, improve balance and help reduce stress. The free event will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., April 27, at the Akron Art Museum, 1 South High St. Demonstrations, audience participation and a special segment for kids will be featured in this two-hour program, which is suitable for adults of all ages and physical abilities, and children old enough to follow along. Participants are asked to bring lawn chairs for this outdoor program. (In the event of inclement weather, it will be held in the lobby).
