Family friendly St. Patrick's Day
From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., March 17, the Akron Zoo, 505 Euclid Ave., is hosting a family-friendly St. Patrick’s Day event with extended evening hours. Go green with fun scavenger hunt, crafts, green enrichment, up-close animal encounters and more. Special kid-friendly and adult-only beverages will be available. food, music from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event is free for zoo members, regular admission rates apply for nonmembers. Southern country rockers Blackberry Smoke will perform on the Kent Stage, 175 E. Main St., March 17. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Gold Circle tickets are $45 and reserved seats are $35 and can be purchased at www.thekentstage.com where the full calendar of concerts can be accessed. Wine and Paint
Create an animal-themed masterpiece at the Akron Zoo’s new event, Wine and Paint, from 6 to 8 p.m. March 20. During the class guests can choose to paint one of three animal-themed paintings. Light appetizers and a glass of wine will be included during the class, along with up-close animal encounters. A live painting demonstration from one of the zoo’s animal ambassadors will take place, and the painting will be raffled off during the event. Tickets are on sale at akronzoo.org or at the zoo’s box office. Cost is $35 for Akron Zoo members and $40 for non-members. Guests must be 21 years or older to attend. Battle of the Bowls
The Lakemore Police Department presents Battle of the Bowls, a chili cookoff, held from 4 to 7 p.m. at Tadmor Shrine Center, 3000 Krebs Drive.
