GREEN Ohio is officially 216 years old as the state celebrated its birthday March 1.
Acme Fresh Market threw a celebration in all of its stores across the area offering free birthday cake and three-day sales on several products.
Acme Marketing Director Katie Swartz said this new event gave the store an opportunity to celebrate Ohio’s birthday and showcase some Ohio products at a reduced price.
“We wanted to highlight that Ohio connection,” Swartz said.
Some of Ohio products include Shearer’s, Ruggles, Smith’s and Schwebel's just to name a few.
Customers also had an opportunity to enter to win a free side of Ohio-raised beef.
Swartz said Acme always wants to get the community into the stores for this kind of events.
“It is fun to see such strong brands come out of Ohio,” Swartz said.
Acme President Jim Trout, along with Green Mayor Gerard Neugebauer, sang Happy Birthday to the state along with many customers and children at the Green store on March 2.
Trout said Acme is Ohio based and it is important to support the Ohio companies they work with.
“Ohio is a great place to do business,” Trout said.
He said Acme is always looking to bring the community into the store and this is just another opportunity to give shoppers some great values.
Neugebauer said these kind of events are good for the community.
"It is nice they bring these kinds of events to our attention and throw little parties," Neugebauer said.
