Youngstown area developer James Sabatine Jr. of Trology Realty bought the property.

PLAIN TWP.  The former Toys 'R Us and Kids 'R Us building on the Plain Township side of Whipple Avenue NW has been purchased by Youngstown area developer James Sabatine Jr. of Trology Realty.

County records list 4824 Whipple Ave. LLC, which formed in July, as the new owner. The property consists of five lots and had been vacant since the Toys 'R Us chain closed its stores last year.

Sabatine doesn't have tenants for the 66,000-square-foot property but is optimistic retailers will find the site attractive. He said the property is being listed with Anchor Associates based in Cleveland.

"That's a pretty vibrant trade area over there," Sabatine said of the Whipple Avenue NW corridor in the Belden Village area.

The building is one of four that Sabatine purchased as Toys 'R Us properties are being auctioned off following the retailers liquidation. His company also added sites in Boardman, Mentor and Fort Wayne, Ind. Sabatine said his company owns property in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and other states.
