GREEN  Green City Council will have a new president and vice president for the next year.

During the Jan. 3 organizational meeting, council voted to make Councilman Bob Young council president and Councilwoman Barbara Babbitt as vice president.

The nomination for both president and vice president came from Councilman Chris Humphrey, who formerly served as the president. Council approved Young as president with a 4-2 vote with Councilmen Stephen Dyer and Justin Speight voting no.

Councilman Matthew Shaughnessy was not present.

The vote for Babbitt to be vice president was 6-0.

Young is in his second term on council and represents Ward 2. Babbitt is in her second year of her first term on council and represents Ward 1.

Following the meeting, Dyer and Speight said they voted no because they believed someone else would be better to lead council. They did not make a nomination, however, for anyone to be president.

Green City Council meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the Central Administration Building with committee meetings at 5 p.m. and the regular meeting at 7 p.m.
