The agency is moving its headquarters to Jackson Township.
JACKSON TWP. The Stark County Health Department will have a new place to call home by the end of next year.
The county agency is moving its headquarters from Convenience Circle NW in Plain Township to 7235 Whipple Ave. NW in the Park Centre plaza in Jackson Township.
The 27,579 square-foot space is large enough that the entire department can be housed in one office and allows for future expansion. Clinical services -- including immunizations, reproductive health and wellness services, and the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program -- will be located on the second floor.
Currently, the health department operates out of two neighboring buildings just east from Belden Village Mall.
“Excellent customer service is of highest priority and it has been our goal, for some time, to locate all health department services under one roof,” Health Commissioner Kirk Norris said in a news release. “The relocation of the Health Department will ensure better efficiency and improved accessibility for the public.”
The Stark County Building Department, which shares office space with the health department, also will move to the new site.
The new site is being renovated. The health department plans to move to the new location by November 2019.
The longer timeline should allow for a smooth transition, said Public Information Officer Kay Conley. "We'll close only briefly, if necessary, to get everything up and running again, so services won't be disrupted too much."
The lease on the current offices ends this year and the health department wanted to explore its options, she said.
Working out of two offices, even if they are adjacent, has been confusing for the public and inefficient for employees, as staff members would have to go between the two buildings, Conley said.
The department was looking for a solution that was cost effective, would keep the department in its service area and would be large enough to accommodate everyone and allow for future growth, she said.
The health department has 62 full-time and eight part-time employees. It's the 10th largest health district in Ohio, according to the release.
