Family Day at Derby Downs

Family Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Soap Box Derby’s Derby Downs, 789 Derby Downs Drive. The day offers an opportunity for participants from ages seven and up to enjoy good trucks, face painters, games, activities and one trip down Derby Downs track in an adult of youth Soap Box Derby car. Tickets are available exclusively at Legacy Motors of Akron, 1277 Home Ave.

Kayak in Summit Lake

From 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 8, paddle in the "Heart of Akron" at Summit Lake. Explore nature by water while discovering the marvelous history of the community which surrounds the lake. Led by a certified instructor and a naturalist. Minimum age is 13; ages 13 to 17 must be with an adult participant. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes and be able to swim. Bring water, sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses and wear clothes that can get wet. Fee includes instruction and loan of kayak, paddle and life jacket. Space is limited and cost is $15 per person. Joyce Yang on stage

Pianist Joyce Yang will perform as part of the Tuesday Musical’s 2018-19 MainStage season at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at EJ Thomas Performing Arts Hall. Audience members can learn more about the program at 6:30 p.m. on the EJ stage, during the Concert Conversation between Yang and Asadour Santourian, vice president for artist administration and artistic advisor for the Aspen Music Festival, where the pianist has performed for the past 12 years.
