GREEN  In August, Rotary International officially recognized its newest Rotary Club at an official charter celebration. The club is part of Rotary’s District 6630, which serves Northeast Ohio. Originally chartered by Kristen Lewis in May, the Rotary Club of Green works to better the community and help out their neighbors.

More than 100 people came out to the event at Brier Creek Lodge on Aug. 10. Rotary International Director Robb Knuepfer, Jr. attended as well as Mayor Gerard Neugebauer, District Governor Beverly Ghent-Skrzynski, Judge Jill Flagg Lanzinger and many more officials.

The celebration also recognized the new club’s inaugural officers including President Lewis, Present Elect Jeananne Chadsey, Treasurer Patricia McLean, Secretary Nicole Reagan and Rotary Foundation Thomas Craig.

Rotary Clubs work through a 4-Way Test:

- Is it the truth?

- Is it fair to all concerned?

- Will it build goodwill and better friendships?

- Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Already, the club is diving in to assist the community. Members go to Green Good Neighbors on the first Wednesday of every month. Green Good Neighbors is a foodbank that serves eight Northeast Ohio counties. On the last Wednesday of the month, the team heads out to Blessings in a Backpack, a program to provide food for children.

"We want to be a force of change within the community," said Chadsey. "I wanted to get involved because I wanted to impact my community directly.

Their big project is a permanent safety city in Summit County. With the help of school system and sheriff's office, it hopes to create a program that teaches kids as young as kindergarten about traffic signals. Unlike other cities, Green does not have a permanent structure or miniature town of this nature. Fundraising for this project is set to start in the fall.

The club already has about 30 members and welcomes any potential new members. Interested parties do not have to be residents of Green. Chadsey described the group as "small, but mighty" and "not your father’s rotary club." It meets at 7:30 a.m every Wednesday Brier Creek Lodge, 4020 Brier Creek Pkwy.
