JACKSON TWP.  During the regular meeting on Aug.28, the Jackson Local Board of Education approved a School Safety Agreement with Jackson Township for school Safety Resource Officers (SROs).

The agreement is for six SROs - one for each of the schools in the district. Each of the officers will be paid $23 an hour plus benefits for 40 hours a week for 185 days during the 2018-19 school year. The cost of the SROs will be evenly split between the Jackson Local School District and Jackson Township.

Superintendent Christopher DiLoreto and Board President Kenneth Douglas both thanked the township trustees and said they appreciated working on the agreement with them.

- Authorized posting a notice on the district’s website and in the Canton Repository about an open meeting to discuss retired bus driver, Cathy Jarrell’s, request to return to the district to work part-time as a bus driver. DiLoreto said it is difficult to find bus drivers in the area and across the state of Ohio.

- Accepted a gift from the American Heart Association of a CPR kit that will train up to 10 people at a time on how to perform CPR. The kit included dummies, a facilitator’s guide and pre and post testing materials.

- Approved two overnight field trips at no cost to the board including 16 students from the culinary program going to New York City and 25 students from the marine biology class going to the Bahamas.

UP NEXT: The Board will meet next at 5 p.m., Sept. 25 at Jackson High School.
