LAKE TWP.  While the calendar may show the area is in the last month of summer, there are still plenty of festivals in the area offering fun, food and entertainment. The annual Uniontown Lions Festival is just one of those events.

The local favorite festival is setup each year in the fields behind the Hartville Marketplace in Hartville. The event draws thousands of people from Uniontown, Hartville and surrounding areas. There is always plenty of food, amusement rides, games, live entertainment, fireworks and a parade each year.

This year’s theme was Thanks to Our First Responders. The grand marshal was Holly Miktarian and her daughter, Thea. Miktarian's husband, Josh, was a part-time Uniontown Police Officer and a full-time Twinsburg Police Officer. He was killed in the line of duty. Miktarian is well known for her service in the law enforcement community throughout Ohio.

The amusement rides and games are provided by Kissed Rides from Cincinnati. Mark Troyer has been the festival chairman for seven years and said all the proceeds go to the local and national charities supported by the Lions Club.

"This is our 24th year, it runs four days and is topped off by a parade with the Lake Local Schools Marching band and with fireworks on the last night," Troyer said.

There is also an annual car show on Friday night along with live entertainment. This year the headliner was the Dave & Daphne Country Group from Nashville.

Dave is originally from Dayton and Daphne is from Georgia. Dave was the lead guitar for Barbara Mandrell from 1986 to 1996. Daphne was the 1992 Southern Gospel Singer of the Year. The group plays many venues around Nashville.

The annual car show awards Best of Pre-War and Post-War and Best of Ford, T-Bird, Corvette, Chevy, Pontiac, Mopar, Buick, Custom, Truck and Open. There are door prizes and a 50/50 raffle each year.

"We are always grateful to the community for coming out each year to support us," Troyer said. "And, we than the Hartville Marketplace for allowing us to hold here each year."

Troyer said the Uniontown Lions Club has about 65 members. For more information or to join, visit the website at
