A trio in a black Chrysler 300 stole a cellphone, dragging the owner down the road.
LAKE TWP. A Greentown-area man was dragged down the street as he refused to let go of the cellphone he was selling via the LetGo app.
Maj. C.J. Stantz of the Stark County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that his office was continuing to investigate the Monday afternoon incident in the 9800 block of Cleveland Avenue NW.
The 18-year-old man was trying to sell his phone when the two men and a woman grabbed the phone and tried to drive away. He reached into the vehicle and was partially inside as he was dragged down the street while they punched and kicked him several times, Stantz said.
He fell out of the vehicle onto the highway and the vehicle continued on, heading west on State Street in their black Chrysler 300.
The young man suffered no life-threatening injuries, but his mother told The Canton Repository on Tuesday that he one of the men in the car was reaching for the glove box and he feared he would be shot.
Law enforcement officers have investigated numerous theft incidents regarding the social media cellphone app earlier this year after people were injured, according to a Jan. 26 article in The Canton Repository. Thieves had been luring people to the Canton area to steal cellphones, gaming systems, athletic shoes and other items the victims had advertised for sale.
