Jackson Township trustees approved a 10-year tax abatement plan for ComDoc and North Canton Pittsburg LLC. It now must be approved by Stark County Commissioners.
JACKSON TWP. A new office building and warehouse valued at more than $20 million likely will receive a 60-percent tax abatement over 10 years.
Jackson Township trustees approved an Ohio Enterprise Agreement with ComDoc and North Canton Pittsburg LLC during a meeting Friday morning. The package still needs the approval Stark County commissioners, and that's anticipated to happen next week.
Plans are for North Canton Pittsburg to build a $12.8 million complex at 8247 Pittsburg Ave. NW, where the former Rohrer farm was located. ComDoc will consolidate four facilities it has in Summit County at the site and expects to invest between $9.25 million and $11.9 million to buy machinery, furnishings and equipment.
In addition to relocating its workforce of more than 200 people to the new site, ComDoc anticipates the abatement will help it create 15 to 30 new jobs. The company sells and maintains copiers, printers and other machinery.
It's expected the building will be finished next year. The 60-percent tax abatement on the building begins in 2019.
Jackson Township officials, ComDoc and North Canton Pittsburg, which is part of Industrial Commercial Properties based in Cleveland, have worked more than a year on the enterprise zone agreement.
The complex to house ComDoc will use 12 acres at the site. Industrial Commercial Properties hopes the initial project will spur development of another 46 acres it has along Pittsburg Avenue NW.
ComDoc formed in 1955 to sell and service office equipment. The company grew and expanded around Ohio and into western Pennsylvania and New York. ComDoc in 2009 merged with Global Imaging Systems, a Xerox company.
