HARTVILLE  Last Friday, the Hartville MarketPlace & Flea Market vendors and shop owners were preparing for the big rush of people that happens every Memorial Day weekend, especially on Memorial Day itself. While the weekend increase in sales usually spans the three-day weekend, most vendors said that Monday is always the best sales day of the year.

In addition to the 1,200 flea market spaces with more than 800 vendors, the Hartville MarketPlace & Flea Market offers an inside marketplace with a variety of shops. For those shoppers who visit the Hartville Flea Market every year, will be delighted with the renovations that have been going on inside the Marketplace building. The south end of the building has been revamped to resemble a street with different facades for each of the specialty stores.

Many of the new shops were opened for the first time a few days before the big rush on Memorial Day. The list of shops customers will find in that area include:

- A fresh meat shop

- Chocolate shop where customers can make their own chocolates

- A gluten free bakery

- A large 8,500 square foot deli and bulk food store

- Pottery painting shop

- An upscale design and décor shop

One of the new stores in the building is Chocolate Creations. One of the sales associates, Tyler Myers, said that when the store is complete, it will offer a chocolate creation station where people can make their own chocolate.

"We are the only chocolate producer that offers customized chocolates, people can tell us what they want in their chocolates and we will customize it to their specific order," Myers said.

A new upscale design and décor shop called The French Rooster opened just in time for the busy holiday weekend. Stephanie Byler is the owner and operator. She’s also a real estate professional and an interior designer.

She named the store after her grandmother who loved roosters. She also just started a new faith-based clothing line with shirts adorned with messages of faith.

"We had a small store on the other side of the building and decided to move to this side of the building with the remodel project," Byler said. "We just opened in the new location yesterday. We carry soaps, pillows, candles and other décor for homes. I also have a new clothing line called Reignn.

Kids and adults alike will enjoy the new Pom Pom Popcorn shop in the MarketPlace building. Shoppers will find more than 40 different flavored nuts such as banana nut bread and over 70 flavors of popcorn such as cotton candy. There is one flavor of popcorn called the Reaper which is flavored with the "hottest pepper in the world," according to sales association Megan McCarthy.

The new store also has a small movie theatre and lemonade stand to complete the experience of popcorn, candy, a cold drink and a movie.

"We’ve been here in a smaller shop for a while and we know how busy the Memorial Day weekend is here," McCarthy said.

Andrea Buchanan owns Andi’s Artisan Scents & Collectibles inside the Marketplace. She said all of the vendors and shop owners are ready for the season to open and the rush of people on Memorial Day.

"Memorial Day is generally the busiest day of the year here, it signals the start of the season and everybody comes here to get it all started," Buchanan said.

The Marketplace will be open six days a week now. In the past, the shops were only open four days a week. The flea market will still be open just the four days: Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Markeplace hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday-Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
