NEW FRANKLIN  The city of New Franklin has announced that Larry and Jackie Ashbaugh have been selected as Grand Marshals of the 2018 Memorial Day Parade.

Larry Ashbaugh retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve in 2001 after 22 years of active and reserve service. Ashbaugh served as a U.S. Army intelligence officer including terms as special security officer, company commander, battalion intelligence officer with the 25th Infantry Division and senior intelligence officer at the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C.

Ashbaugh also developed and taught counter-terrorism courses at the Defense Intelligence College and served overseas as a senior counterterrorism analyst during Operation Desert Storm.

Larry met his wife, Jackie, while they were both serving on active duty in Hawaii. Jackie Ashbaugh also served on active duty in Washington, D.C., at the Bangor, Wash., submarine base, and served for 18 months providing security at the Crane Naval Warfare Facility following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. She retired as an IT-1, Information Technologist from the United States Navy after 24 years active and reserve service.

The Ashbaughs have been married 39 years and have four children, Laura, Larry, Michael and Tiffany, and four grandchildren. They are residents of New Franklin and count 46 years of military service to our Country between them.

The Parade begins at 10 a.m. May 28 at Grace Bible Church on Manchester Road, and concludes at Manchester Cemetery where Pastor Stephen Humphreys of Grace Bible Church will deliver the Invocation. Col. Larry Ashbaugh will offer brief remarks, and the community will honor all those who so bravely and unselfishly served our nation and made the ultimate sacrifice. The ceremony will conclude with Benediction by Pastor Dale Gharky of Manchester United Methodist Church.
