Surviving the winter

From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 29, celebrate the start of another winter season. Bring your own hot dogs and buns to cook over an open fire, and the Metro Parks will provide drinks and condiments. Then, hike with a naturalist to investigate how animals survive the winter. The cook out is held at F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm/Campfire Area, 1828 Smith Road. For information, call 330-865-8065.

Winter bird watch

Send off 2017 with a relaxing walk to look for winter birds, and then enjoy a cup of hot cocoa, while supplies last. Binoculars recommended. The walk takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 31 at the Springfield Bog Metro Park, 1400 Portage Line Road. For information, call 330-865-8065.

Fun in the snow

All ages can come to the Metro Park’s Nature Play area in Goodyear Heights Metro Park, along Alder Trail, from 3 to 4 p.m. Jan. 2 and engage in fun, hands-on experiences with snow. No snow? We'll make our own. For information, call 330-865-8065. The park is at 550 Frazier Avenue.
