A South Boulevard man told police Dec. 18 that he was contacted by a collection agency about money he owed on an account he did not open. He believes someone used his personal information to open the account.
A Rittman woman reported a travel VCR, 20 VCR tapes and a cell phone, total value $1,019, were stolen from her vehicle while she was inside a Dressler Road doctor’s office Dec. 18.
Three tool sets with a total value of $920 were reported stolen Dec. 18 from a department store in the Belden Village Mall. A security officer told police the same man stole the items on three separate occasions between Dec. 14 and 18.
A Dellroy woman reported her wallet was stolen after she inadvertently left it in a shopping cart outside a Whipple Avenue supermarket Dec. 18.
Two Shakertown Drive women, both 23, were charged with domestic violence Dec. 17 after police said they assaulted each other during an altercation at their apartment. Both were booked into the Stark County Jail.
Two Parma women, 21 and 22, and a Canton woman, 41, were charged with disorderly conduct Dec. 16 after police said they got into a fight in a parking lot at the Belden Village Mall. The Canton woman alleges the Parma women started the fight by driving on the wrong side of the road. They got out of their car and attacked her, she said. Several witnesses, however, said the Canton woman got out of her car first and attacked the two women while they were sitting in their car.
A Navarre woman, 30, was arrested outside a Mega Street Northwest store Dec. 16 on warrants for identity fraud, a fifth-degree felony, and misdemeanor misuse of a credit card. She was transported to the Stark County Jail and booked.
A spokesperson for a Sunset Strip Avenue social club told police Dec. 16 that someone forged three checks from the club’s account and cashed them for a total of $7,710.64. Police were investigating.
A Uniontown man, 53, and a West Virginia woman, 46, were charged Dec. 16 with having open containers of alcohol in a motor vehicle. Police said they were found sitting in a car at a Wales Avenue drive-thru restaurant with open bottles of beer.
A Massillon man, 21, was jailed in Stark County Dec. 16 on a drunken-driving charge. Police pulled the man over on Stuhldreher Street for driving at a high rate of speed. His blood alcohol content registered .224, more than twice the legal limit.
A Dover man, 19, was allegedly caught stealing a $13 Batman jar from a store in the Belden Village Mall Dec. 15. He was charged with theft and released with a court summons. On the same day, police arrested two other people for shoplifting. A Massillon woman, 26, was charged for allegedly leaving a Dressler Road store with $240 worth of merchandise concealed in her purse. A Canton woman, 40, was allegedly caught stealing $109 in clothing from an Everhard Road store.
A resident at a Higbee Avenue senior home reported $400 was stolen from her purse and coin jar between Nov. 19 and Dec. 14. Police were investigating.
A Canton man, 36, was arrested for allegedly stealing a T-shirt and a pair of socks from a Dressler Road department store on Dec. 14. Police located him inside a nearby store and found him in possession of the items.
On Dec. 13, a woman told police that while she was inside a Wales Avenue gas station, she noticed a man inadvertently drop several counterfeit $100 bills from his pocket. She picked up the bills and intended to give them back to the man, but he had already left. She gave them to a clerk who then called police.
A man attempted to cash a fraudulent business check at a Wales Avenue bank on Dec. 13. When told the check had to be confirmed by the business, the man grabbed the check and fled. Police later learned the man successfully cashed the $2,500 fake check at a Locust Street bank. On the same day, an employee at a Fulton Drive bank said a man came in and tried to cash a check for $1,982. When told the check was fraudulent, the man fled out the door, leaving behind the check and his state ID.
A Massillon man, 33, was charged Dec. 13 with disorderly conduct. Officers responded to a call on Oakdale Street Northwest where they reportedly found the man extremely intoxicated stumbling through backyards. His brother told police he would not take control of the man. Since he had no one else to call, the man was transported to the Stark County Jail for his own safety.
On Dec. 12, police arrested a 38-year-old Canton man at the Belden Village Mall on charges of possession of heroin, a fifth-degree felony, and misdemeanor possession of drug abuse instruments. He was transported to the Stark County Jail and booked.
An Akron woman reported someone used her debit card information to purchase gift cards and lottery tickets from a Dressler Road discount store on Dec. 12.
A Canton man, 64, was arrested for theft at the Belden Village Mall on Dec. 12. Police said he wheeled a shopping cart out of a store that was filled with nearly $1,000 worth of merchandise he did not pay for.
