The Green High School boys golf team recently captured its third Federal League title in a row and a sectional championship. Now, the Bulldogs are taking a swing at advancing to the state tournament.

"We played a little rough at first early on in the beginning of the season," head coach Brian Tharp said. "But the boys have really stepped up and are currently playing great. They shot a 147 and 295 for 9 and 18 holes, respectively in the last two weeks and that is pretty good. The 147 may even be a school record. I am very satisfied with how they are playing."

Overall, the team is 13-1 and 11-1 in the Federal League. In tournament play, the Bulldogs have won two titles, have a runner-up finish and two third place finishes.

Tharp has four players that form the core of the team. They are seniors Miles Demuesy and Jordon Conjerti, junior Cade Breitenstine and sophomore Maxwell Moldovan. Backing them up are seniors Claude Smith, Jonathan Knapp, Ryan Laipert, Dan Distelhorst and Zak Kalenterides, who rotate in the starting lineup.

"My most consistent players are Cade, Max, and Miles," said Tharp. "They are very close in their scores. Overall, the boys are very well schooled in their individual game. They know their games and courses so well that they can adjust their individual shots as needed. They have been playing a lot of golf and really love the sport. The other day, we came back from a match and they went out on their own and played another nine holes. That is dedication. They really love the sport.

"We are looking to repeat our performance in last year in post season play. ... The boys are confident but aren't looking ahead. They realize that they have to play one match at a time, and are comfortable at where they are right now. We are really hopeful that we will win down at the state tournament."
