Artspace exhibition

Artists with studios at the Akron and Barberton locations of Summit Artspace will have an exhibition in the downtown Akron gallery today. The public is invited to a free reception with the artists from 5 to 8 p.m. in the second floor lobby, of Summit Artspace, 140 E. Market Street. Fiery river history

From 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Gorge Metro Park Main Street entrance, 1160 Front Street, Cuyahoga Falls, learn about the Cuyahoga River's fiery past. Many people recall the Cuyahoga River catching fire in 1969, but did you know that the river burned many times throughout history? Earth Day at the zoo

The Akron Zoo will celebrate Earth Day with Party for the Planet, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The zoo will honor some of their “superheroes” who are making a difference in the field of conservation and sustainability. Any guests who wear a superhero costume or t-shirt will get 50 percent off admission. Guests can enjoy presentations from staff, aka, “superheroes” who have gone above and beyond for conservation and sustainability, including talks on tigers, red pandas, organic waste, climate change, sustainable gardening and more. The zoo will also be highlighting some of the animals’ super abilities during their live animal superhero show at 11 a.m., noon, 2 and 3 p.m. in Nature’s Theater. Plus the zoo will be collecting aluminum cans for their Cans for Corridor program. Any guest that brings in a bag of cans will be entered to win a get closer experience. Free Tai Chi

Free lunchtime Tai Chi will be held from 12:15 to 1 p.m. at the Akron Art Museum's Wellness Wednesdays. It is a time to de-stress and get moving. The community wellness program introduces you to breathing and movement techniques that will boost energy, improve balance and help reduce and manage stress.
