A traffic stop for speeding turned into felony charges against a 20-year-old man after Springfield police officers found a loaded .45-caliber handgun and a grenade in his vehicle.
Officers stopped Lane Spraggins early Friday morning for speeding in the 2400 block of Massillon Road. Upon approaching, officers say they noticed a semi-automatic handgun in the back of the vehicle. They then located what appeared to be an active grenade in the rear driver's side door area.
The Summit County Bomb Squad was called to the scene and determined the grenade was inert.
Spraggins was charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony, and was booked into the Summit County Jail.
