NEW FRANKLIN  The Manchester Local School Board approved the annual non-renewals of 33 supplemental and eight certified positions at the March 21 board meeting, and will act again on the renewals for these positions at the May school board meeting.

Manchester Local Schools Superintendent Dr. James Robinson said all of the jobs are posted and most likely all those holding these positions will return for the 2017-18 school year.

The board also accepted the resignation of Peggy Richards, secretary at Nolley Elementary. Dr. Robinson said that Richards served as secretary for 17 years. The resignation is effective June 9, 2017.

The board also accepted the resignation of A. J. Hite, Manchester High School Athletic Director, effective June 2, 2017. Both Robinson and Board President Richard Sponseller stated that Hite was an effective athletic director for the three years he served. Robinson said Hite wanted more time to spend with his two children, in middle school and high school.

In an annual measure, the board approved a resolution accepting the amounts and rates as determined by the Summit County Budget Commission and authorizing the existing necessary tax levies and certifying them to the county auditor.

In legislation, the board heard a first reading of policy that will only require going out for bids for purchases if they exceed $50,000 or more. If approved, the policy would replace one that requires seeking bids for purchases of $25,000 or more.

The board approved the following donations:

- The Summit Education Initiative donated $500 to Nolley Elementary. Robinson said the funds will be used for an ongoing program to have the district reach out to local pre-schools that feed into the district to better prepare pre-school students for Kindergarten.

- The Manchester High School PTA donated $300 to the MHS Barbeque Club.

- The next meeting of the school board will be Tuesday, April 18 at 6:30 pm at the administration building on Manchester Road.
