NORTH CANTON  The North Canton Board of Education approved sports coaches for spring and next fall during the regular meeting on Feb. 15.  

The board approved a list of spring coaches for baseball, boys and girls lacrosse, softball, boys tennis and boys and girls track and field. They also approved a list of fall coaches for boys and girls cross country, football, boys and girls golf, boys and girls soccer, girls tennis and volleyball.


- Superintendent Jeff Wendorf reminded the board and the community of the upcoming facilities planning meeting at 6:30 tonight in the Commons area of Hoover High School. Residents are invited to attend and provide input for the ongoing facilities planning.

- Heard a presentation from one of the companies/teams from the high school business management program. Two students, Tori Vallos and Sam Russell, from the company United Links presented a new product line to the board, a lemonade stand kit. The kit can be used as a learning tool by youth who want learn how to start their own business.

- Approved two field trips, including the Hoover Robotics team to participate in the Miami Valley Regional of the First Robotics Competition at Wittenberg University March 8-11 with no cost to the board except for transportation and a substitute; and the Hoover Robotics team to participate in the Buckeye Regional of the First Robotics Competition at Cleveland State in Cleveland, March 30-April 1 with no cost to the board except for bus transportation.

- Approved an out-of-state eighth-grade field trip to Washington D.C., and Gettysburg, Pa., Nov. 8-10 with no cost to the board. The board also approved a new tour company for the trip, Traveling Classrooms Tours.

- Approved an out-of-state conference for Doug Koffel, head mechanic, to attend a conference on propane-powered school busses in Livonia, Mich.

- Accepted a donation of several boxes of music books for use in the orchestra program with thanks from Martin’s Violin Shop.

- Accepted two retirements including physics teacher Darrell Woods who has 32 years in education and 16 years at Hoover High School. Education assistant Linda Broemsen was the second retirement. She has 22 years in education.

- Went into executive session to discuss potential legal litigation with no action taken.
