Membership milestones were celebrated at the recent meeting of the Gamma Alpha Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, as it kicked off the new school year at Chateau Michele in Canton. 

Recognized for 5 years of membership were: Elisha Conrad, Betsy Douce, Ryann Kavali and Nancy Share; 30 years: Beverly DeHaven and Mary Lou Muckley; 45 years: Wilma Werstler. In addition, Bev Riske was recognized for perfect attendance.

A warm welcome was extended by President Sharon McConnell, who then led the business meeting. Minutes from Recording Secretary Linda Hempstead were read and approved.  Treasurer Pat Gates distributed membership cards and she shared the proposed budget for 2016-17, which passed. Yearbooks, compiled by Jeanne Leed and Bev Riske, were distributed. Membership chairman Nancy Hartley encouraged everyone to invite others to join the chapter. 

In New Business:

- Guidelines for the group’s fundraiser in December, a basket raffle, were explained.

- 2016 Gamma Alpha scholarship recipient Ryann Kavali expressed appreciation for the group’s support and she reported on her recent continuing education classes.

- The hostess for the September meeting and brunch was Chyme Burnham and the invocation, titled "The Butterfly Effect", was offered by Barbara Terlizzi. Janet Swihart led the group in the singing of the Delta Kappa Song.

- As a service project, members brought to the meeting a variety of new school supplies for the students of Gibbs Elementary School. In addition, monetary donations were collected for Walsh University’s Uganda program, which Gamma Alpha member Dr. Carol Sandbrink helps oversee. 

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.
