NORTH CANTON  During a special meeting, the North Canton City Schools Board of Education approved several new hires in preparation of the 2016-17 school year.

New hires included Kara Nichols as an intern school psychologist. Nichols is working on her licensure and will be paid through a grant.

Jamie Dannemiller was hired as secretary at 7.5 hours a day for 211 days. Lauren Hodgkinson was hired as the EMIS coordinator effective Aug. 10. She will be paid the same salary as the district’s secretaries plus a seven percent (of her base pay) EMIS coordinator stipend.

There were four educational assistants approved including Connie Frank, Allison Kamyszak, Megan Howard and Christine Staudinger.

OTHER ACTIONS:

n Accepted the resignation of Darci Buynak, payroll assistant, effective Aug. 5.

n Held a discussion about the district’s readiness for the start of the 2016-17 school year. Superintendent Jeff Wendorf said he believes the district will have some personnel recommendations on the Aug. 17 meeting agenda. He also told the board employees in the district have been receiving training on the new Sungard K-12 school administrative software and the transition to the new software is in progress.

n Heard there will be a district convocation starting at 7:30 a.m., Aug. 19.

n Heard the staff, parent and community surveys are either in progress or have been completed. Wendorf said the resulting data will be used to develop a strategic plan for the district.
