Last summer, the Jackson Trustees added a new family oriented event to its activities held at the North Park. In fact, the Movie & Jazz Concert in the Park was so popular, this year there are three Movies in the Park events scheduled.

Another big change to the event is the size of the movie screen. Last year, the inflatable screen was 38 feet. This year, the screen will be 55 feet.

"We held this event the first time last year and the response was so great, we decided to expand the event this year," said Jackson Township Parks Foreman Dave Ruwadi. "Each movie night has its own theme. Dean James, in conjunction with ArtsinStark, will provide music for the June movie, and we’ll have a concert in the Gazebo for the August movie night. For July, we’ll have family night with games and other activities."

What’s a movie without the popcorn and food? Members of the Jackson Township Police and Fire Departments will be handing out free popcorn. The Jackson Township Historical Society will be selling cotton candy. And, a food vendor will offer a variety of foods for sale.

Food offerings will be expanded for the July event when Ruwadi said they are planning to have food trucks at the park.

"We are getting the largest outdoor movie screen the company has to offer to make this year’s events even bigger," Ruwadi said. "This is one of the many events the township offers throughout the year so that residents can come out and enjoy the parks. The trustees and the parks department appreciate all of the support the residents show us by attending the events and having a great time."
