Seven teens from Stark are among 29 being recognized by the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown with its Eagle of the Cross Award.

The award is given to high school students for outstanding service in their communities, parishes or parochial schools. This year's local winners are:


Katherine J. Flickinger, Central Catholic High School; Sts. Philip & James parish, Canal Fulton

Matthew Hersher, Massillon Washington High School; St. Joseph parish, Massillon

Abigail N. Marchand, Perry High School; St. Anthony All Saints parish, Canton

Maggie J. Paul, Central Catholic High School; St. Joseph parish, Massillon

Joseph Roth, Central Catholic High School, St. Mary parish, Massillon

Quinn Li Lamp, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, St. Louis parish, Louisville

Elizabeth Wheeler, St. Thomas Aquinas high school; St. Louis parish, Louisville

The teens will receive their awards at a private banquet Tuesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica in Youngstown, but the public may attend the liturgy at 6 p.m. Bishop George V. Murry will be the celebrant.
