PLAIN TWP. St. Michael the Archangel CatholicChurch, 3430 St. Michael Drive NW, has completed installation of ListenLOOP technology to enhance the worship experience for those who have difficulty hearing.
St. Michael has installed a six-loop induction array system. Installed below the floor of the sanctuary, it provides intelligible sound directly to an individual’s hearing aid. It eliminates background noise, competing sounds and other acoustic distortions.
According to a news release, Julia Jones Huyck, a St. Michael’s parishioner and assistant professor of speech pathology and audiology at Kent State University, made the following observation about this new capability:
"People often withdraw from activities during which they have difficulty hearing. With this new technology, hearing aid users who have telecoils will be able to more fully participate in liturgies and programs at St. Michael’s. This new technology is a fabulous addition to the assistive listening devices already available at the parish for listeners who do not have hearing aids or whose hearing aids do not have T-coils."
