It will be the shopping destination’s new anchor store.

LAKE TWP. Another place to look for a deal will be opening in the Hartville MarketPlace & Flea Market.

Darn Cheap Discounts will fill the 8,500-square-foot anchor slot formerly occupied by Mapleview Market. The store plans a grand opening on June 5, although a soft opening could be as soon as this weekend.

The store carries a variety of items ranging from snacks and pop to name brand clothing for children. You can find housewares, tools, health and beauty products, cleaning products and shelves of paper towels and toilet paper.

Mike Farina owns the store. He previously operated Darn Cheap Discounts in Canal Fulton.

Operating a discount retail store is in Farina's DNA. His father, Michael Farina, operates Discount Outlet stores in Massillon and Belden Village, as well as International Enterprises, a wholesale liquidation company. Farina has worked for both.

"I decided to follow in his footsteps," the younger Farina said.

Plans were to operate Darn Cheap Discounts stores at the Hartville MarketPlace and in Canal Fulton, but the original store has been closed. Farina said the coronavirus pandemic led to the closing of the Canal Fulton location, which was smaller than the store that will open in Hartville MarketPlace.

Seth Coblentz, general manager at Hartville MarketPlace, called Darn Cheap Discounts a "perfect addition" to the retail offerings at the Lake Township shopping destination.

"We're excited to expand our locally-owned business offering," Coblentz said in a statement announcing the new anchor store.

Farina agrees that his store can be a good fit for Hartville MarketPlace. He won't be competing with other retailers in the building. "The types of products we carry are things that complement them," he said.

The store will have about 10 employees and be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
