The Lake Township Trustees heard from Joel Shodi from GAI Consultants about the Road User Maintenance Agreements (RUMA) in reference to the NEXUS gas pipeline project during their regular meeting May 23.

Shodi told the board that he wanted to introduce himself and introduce his company’s role and the RUMA process. He said his company is an engineering company hired by NEXUS to talk with the various communities about the RUMAs. He also said he’s there to help put the agreements in place, to develop the contractor maps and to video tape the roads conditions after the project is completed in the area.

Shodi also said that preliminary reports show that 12 township roads for a total of 10 miles will be affected by the project.

NEXUS is seeking to build a 36-inch-diameter pipeline to carry 1.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas a day from the Marcellus and Utica shales to users in Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Canada. The path of the pipeline - which would begin in Columbiana County - would go from Marlboro Township into Lake Township and then into the city of Green.
