Fire heavily damaged a Jackson Twp. home around noon Friday, killing two family dogs.

Two dogs were killed in a fire that heavily damaged a Lake Cable area home just before noon Friday.

Neighbor Val Rohrer said she was coming home from her job at Fishers Foods when she saw smoke coming from 5440 East Blvd. NW.

She and a neighbor dialed 911 and ran up to the house and rang the doorbell to alert anyone home.

No one answered, she said.

Firefighters called at 11:48 a.m. to the wood-frame ranch-style house arrived to see smoke coming from the eaves and along the roofline, said Inspector Aaron Stoller of the fire department’s Fire Prevention Bureau.

They went into the locked house and began an interior attack, he said.

Township firefighters called North Canton firefighters to help.

He confirmed that two dogs died.

The house sustained heavy smoke and heat throughout, he said.

Firefighters have not determined the cause of the blaze.

Stoller confirmed an investigation was under way.

He said no one was home when the fire broke out, and no one was hurt.
