Want to get a way for the day and do something fun and tropical? The Great Vacations Expo held by AAA is a great place to feel the spirit of a warm getaway.

The Expo runs Jan. 16, 17 and 18 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in downtown Columbus. Exhibitors from many states, cruise lines and some very exotic places will be on hand to provide the 411 on everything travel. There will be plenty of fun for everyone in the family.

Find that inner dare devil and learn about walking a tightrope with high-wire artist, Nik Wallenda as he tells visitors what makes him do it and how travelers can see the world from a different angle.  Wallenda will answer audience questions and pose for photos. He will be speaking at 2 p.m. Jan. 18.

Wallenda represents the seventh generation of the legendary Great Wallendas. He began walking the wire at age four and has since completed a host of jaw-dropping stunts, including walking over Niagara Falls and the Grand Canyon.

If dare devil is not your thing, maybe food is. Restaurant writer and James Beard Award winner, Josh Ozersky will appear to share his insider secrets on how travelers can truly immerse themselves in a destination through its food. He will be on the stage at 3 p.m. Jan. 17.

Ozersky will take questions from the audience about the best food cities and restaurants for travelers. He recently took over Esquire magazine's extensive food and restaurant coverage. He also writes the magazine's “Best New Restaurants in America” list and the first ever “Food and Drink Awards.”

Bring the kids. Jan. 17 is Kids Day and will feature a Myrtle Beach giveaway. From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. the day will be designed to entertain the youngest members of the family while mom and dad gather plenty of useful tips and advice. Parents can talk one-on-one with travel pros and providers to plan the perfect trip for their family's needs, interests and budget, while kids have a blast.

Travel Expo's Kids Day highlights include:

- The Expo's popular "Passport for Prizes” game offers guests a chance to win a family getaway to sunny Myrtle Beach.

- The Great Outdoors area, presented by Metro Parks, gives Mom and Dad a chance to take a breather while kids enjoy interacting with wildlife, a putting green and other outdoor-related activities.

- Exotic animals transform the Travel Stage into a full-on menagerie at noon with The Farm at Walnut Creek.

- A costumed General Sherman re-enactor brings history to life at 10:30 a.m. with kid-friendly tales of the Civil War, presented by Fairfield County Visitors and Convention Bureau.

- Well-known hiking expert, author and speaker Jeff Alt offers his tried-and-true tips for hiking with kids at 1 p.m.
