Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived in Jackson Township just in time to turn the lights on in Jackson North Park. The duo enjoyed hearing the gift wishes of hundreds of children on Dec. 13 during the township's annual Holiday in the Park and Tree Lighting Ceremony.

It's a 20-plus year tradition in the township. Dave Ruwadi of Jackson Township Parks said the annual event draws several hundred people every year.

“This year, we have more lights and we brought in a DJ to play music,” Ruwadi said. “It really takes the entire community to make this event happen each year. Glenmoor Country Club donates the use of Santa's chair, Pat Catan's supplies craft items for the kids and the Jackson School of Arts entertains us.”

The evening started with the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus on a fire truck from the Jackson Township Fire Department. Those waiting to see Santa, enjoyed hot dogs and hot chocolate. The evening was topped off with caroling and the lighting of the tree.

The decorated North Park can be seen throughout the holidays. Jackson North Park is located on Fulton Drive across from Jackson High School.
