Thanks to an ever-growing list of on-demand options and devices, viewers are watching more TV from a wider variety of services than ever before, according to TVGuide.com's Fall 2013 TV survey. In total, 21 percent of 2,249 respondents surveyed say they watch more than 40 hours of TV per week, up from last year's 17 percent. Most surprisingly, numerous viewing options have not put a dent in live-viewing. Approximately 90 percent say that they watch live TV - a figure that has remained consistent over the past four years - because of certain can't-miss, "appointment TV" shows, events or sports games. They also don't want to risk getting spoiled. But we can't watch live TV all the time, as much as we'd like to, which means on demand and streaming to the rescue! Fifty-two percent say that they are watching on demand, up from last year's 46 percent and a staggering 49 percent of them say that they have increased their on-demand usage since last year. More than 60 percent say that they use on demand to supplement their DVRs in the wake of all the great content there is to consume. Others watch on demand in order to discover new shows to watch live in the future and because they don't want to get invested early in a show that might get canceled. Online streaming has also surged to 54 percent, up from 44 percent in 2012.Watching TV via time-shifted methods has also led to more binge-watching: Sixty-five percent say that they binge-watch, 50 percent of that group says that they do so to catch up with shows friends and family are talking about. How do you watch your favorite shows?
