  • A ceremony Saturday dedicated 17 plaques to fallen area war veterans on the Wall of Honor at Veterans Memorial Park in Massillon.
Honored with plaques were Stark County military personnel who were killed while associated with operations in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan.
The plaque dedication followed the planting of 285 U.S. flags at Massillon's Duncan Plaza on Friday. The names of Ohio military personnel killed since Sept. 11, 2011, were inscribed on each flag pole. Dozens of families and friends of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice from Stark and surrounding counties, veterans and residents attended the opening ceremony of Ohio Flags of Honor, which will be on display through Sunday along First Street SE. The opening ceremony included a Color Guard, bag pipes, a 21-gun salute, the playing of taps, and a riderless horse.
