PS4 Sold Out at Gamestop
Nearly a full five months before release, the Playstation 4 is sold out at Gamestop. The company announced today that they will be no longer accepting pre-orders for Sony's new machine (http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2013/07/08/gamestop-cuts-off-playstation-4-preorders.aspx) in store OR online. It is great news for Sony, especially since the Playstation 3 had such a rough go of things in this generation. It still feels weird to announce something is sold out a major retailer.....several months before it is even released. That is the way things go in the video game world. If you missed out on pre-ordering at Gamestop, there are some bundles available at other retailers like Amazon.com. I can't imagine that they will have them much longer though. Parents that are looking to snag one for Christmas may want to act fast. It's not often a company asks people to throw down money on something where people don't actually know what they are getting and is successful but that is the case with video games. It's just the way things work in the industry. I'm so used to it that I didn't think twice before showing up at my local Gamestop early the day after E3 early to throw down money on both new consoles. The fact that the system is sold out BEFORE launch is going to come as a shock to some casual players and some parents though. It's probably not fair that you have to make a decision on something that isn't even going to be hitting shelves until November but if you want one soon after launch its the decision you have to make. I feel for anybody that doesn't want to make that decision now but I can't say much. I was the guy leading everyone into the store the day after the PS4 was revealed. I just want every reader to know not be surprised to walk into a department store looking for a new console soon after launch and finding empty shelves. The consoles you are looking for will have been sold before they reached the shelf...in July.
