KEY ACTION Jackson Township trustees amended the hours of the yard waste drop-off to 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The drop-off site is closed Sunday.
The trustees had approved shortening the hours to just weekdays at their last meeting.
DISCUSSION Township Trustee James Walters said he appreciated all of the feedback the trustees received from township residents about the change in hours for the yard waste drop-off site.
“The yard waste site has cost $52,000 to operate so far this year for labor and equipment,” Walters said.
“The weekday hours are standard township hours and we changed the hours to reduce the cost of overtime. We know the site is heavily utilized. I use the site myself and we do realize the impact the reduction in hours had so we have added Saturday hours to help residents,” Walters said.
Trustees are planning on preparing two levies for the May ballot, including a separate parks levy and renewal levy for the roads department. The parks levy will be for five years and millage will be determined at the next trustees meeting in December.
The renewal will be for its current amount.
