  • Seniors, beware the latest Medicare telephone scam.
Monday morning, Canton resident Ann Egnor received a phone call from a man in Galveston, Texas, who identified himself as a Medicare representative.
“He said Medicare was going to send out new cards to senior citizens,” said Egnor, 78. “I went along with that, but then he verified my address and said he had  to ask a few more questions in order to send the package out. He asked for my bank account number and I hung up the phone.”
Egnor and her neighbor and friend Sharon Palmer decided to notify Medicare of the bogus call and they both wanted others in the area to be on the alert.
The phone number that showed up on Egnor’s Caller ID was 409-574-1214. However, when dialed, there is no connection.
The caller, Egnor said, had a foreign accent.
