  • City Safety Director Thomas Ream plans to resign in April.
Ream, who became safety director in 2009 following a 32-year career with the Canton Police Department, submitted his notice to Mayor William J. Healy II Monday. His resignation is effective April 19.
In his letter, Ream said he looks forward to starting a new chapter in his life without full-time employment.
“My bucket list is long, the golf gods are calling and I am fortunate to have the good health necessary to pursue these endeavors,” Ream said in his letter.
As safety director, Ream oversees the city’s police, fire and some portions of the building and traffic engineering departments. He earns a salary of $83,771 a year.
Ream did not immediately return a call seeking comment Friday.
