    • The 31st Annual Great Trail Arts and Crafts Festival this weekend entices through the sights, sounds and smells of Colonial America.
    • Spectators can marvel at hurtling tomahawks during the State of Ohio Tomahawk Throwing Championship competition at 1 p.m. Monday. Those who can’t get enough action also can take in a battle reenactment by the Great Trail Pathfinders Longrifle Club at 1 p.m. daily.
    • The Akron & District Bag Pipe Band, show fiddler Krista Solars and her band, Fare Passage Band and fiddler Joe Lautzenheiser will entertain with old-time music, and the Cedar Valley Cloggers will show off their fancy footwork.
    • Lovers of history are invited to attend historical lectures and demonstrations that will lend context to the historical costumes and displays around them.
    • Crafters will offer their wares in the 18th century marketplace, including such items as handmade soaps, leatherwork, primitive folk art, textiles, candles, pottery and other goods.
    • Plenty of food will help festivalgoers squelch their hunger. The offerings include ham and bean soup, fresh corn bread, buffalo burgers, Indian fry bread, hot apple dumplings, homemade pumpkin rolls and nut rolls, ice cream, sandwiches and fresh lemonade.
    Why attend? The festival is a longtime source of historical entertainment, celebrating 31 years of folk art, crafting, kettle-cooked foods, battle reenactments and old-time music and dance.

    When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
    Where: Great Trail Festival grounds, (GPS location: 6331 Canton Road, Malvern), 1.5 miles south of Malvern on state Route 43.
