  • Stark State College will host a memorial art auction Thursday and Friday where more than 40 works of art created by the late Bette Elliott can be purchased through silent auction.
Elliott, a former North Canton resident who passed away in 2011 at the age of 91, was a critically acclaimed and award-winning artist in watercolor and acrylic media. She was an active member of the Ohio Watercolor Society and Canton Artists League, and supported the Canton Museum of Art and the North Canton Library’s Little Art Gallery. Her paintings have been displayed in many parts of the U.S. and around the world. Listed in Marquis’ Who’s Who in American Art, Elliott taught art at Kent State University at Stark, Canton Museum of Art and the Little Art Gallery, as well as in her home where students and friends took classes for many decades. The Canton Women’s Club named her the 2008 Woman of the Year.
Elliott’s sons, Brady and Casey, donated 68 of her paintings to Stark State. More than 20 of the works are being hung in locations at the main campus and satellites, with the remainder scheduled for auction.
Proceeds will go toward preserving her art being displayed at at the school.
The auction will run from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on  Thursday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday. Refreshments will be served Thursday evening. While bids will be accepted until the end of the auction, a “buy now” option will allow bidders to purchase art at any time for a specified amount.
The auction will be held in Room M100 of the College’s Business & Entrepreneurial Center. Visitors may park in visitor parking in front of the Student Services Center at 6200 Frank Ave. NW in Jackson Township.
